Dataw Island is a truly magnificent 870 acre gated residential community located just outside the antebellum town of Beaufort, SC. Selected by Southern Living Magazine as the “Best Small Southern Town,” Beaufort is approximately 1 hour away from Savannah and 2 hours from Charleston, SC. Dataw Island is a private, secluded sea island located 6 miles outside of historic Beaufort, SC. Dataw Island has two 18-hole championship golf courses designed by Tom Fazio and Arthur Hills. Few private country club communities can boast of such an ideal location and two championship golf courses. Dataw Island is designated an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by Audubon International. Dataw Island Club has a very active golf membership and over 40,000 rounds are played per year. There are approximately 350 golf members and 500 social members as well as nearly 100 members from the surrounding community. The average membership age is 69. The elegant 40,000 square foot clubhouse contains formal and informal dining areas and a golf pro shop. Additional facilities include practice facility and putting green, 8 Har-Tru Tennis Courts, tennis pro shop, snack facility, swimming pool, 2 croquet courts and miles of leisure trails. The freestanding 16,000 square foot Community Center offers a state-of-the-art fitness and activity center with an indoor pool and spa, fitness room, aerobic studio, conference room, massage facilities and arts and crafts studio. The sports facilities have full-time professionals in place. Gross revenues for Dataw Island Club are $5.7 Million, dues revenue totals $3.5 Million, food and beverage sales total $1.4M. Food sales comprise over a million dollars of that total, with 65% of those sales coming from the a la carte outlets. The Club operates 12 months per year, 6 days per week. A privately-owned full service marina with easy access to the Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic Ocean is also located on the island. The club has three dining outlets. There is a free standing deli operation near the pool, golf and tennis amenities and two restaurant concepts inside the clubhouse; the Pub and the Grill. There is a well equipped and spacious air conditioned kitchen with an a la carte line and a separate banquet line. The membership has committed to a complete renovation of the Pub and Grill and will be launching new dining concepts for both. Both of these dining outlets will enjoy panoramic views of the golf course, croquet lawns and tidal marsh. There is also a plan to add an outdoor terrace with a fireplace that will service the membership’s dining needs. When completed, these dining areas will represent as fine a dining ambiance as there is in the Lowcountry.
